You had a great idea that you were really excited about. It might've been a new business, project or blog, but then somewhere along the line you began to doubt yourself and question whether you could actually be successful.
You even started to question whether your "brilliant idea" was actually a brilliant idea to begin with. So you put it on the back burner, forgot about it for a while, or perhaps even replaced it with a new and improved version, only to eventually let go of that idea too.
Does that sound pretty accurate?
If it does, it's not because I'm a mind reader, I know exactly how you feel because I've experienced this too.
Here's the story behind my brilliant idea
Earlier this year, I decided that I wanted to work from home as a virtual assistant and start my own business. It seemed like the right move because of all that was going on in the world with the pandemic and I really just wanted to use my skills in a more impactful way that was better suited to the lifestyle I wanted to live.
Shortly after making the decision to leave my job, I quickly began to question whether I had lost my mind! I was thinking, "Yes, Arnetia, you've created websites, e-books, graphics, landing pages and so many other things throughout the years BUT are these skills really valuable to other people? Are you even good enough? And can you really build a sustainable lifestyle using your current skillset?
Needless to say, I talked myself out of believing that I could actually do this and my brilliant idea didn't seem all that brilliant anymore. But, I stuck with it, and despite my fears and insecurities that continued to show up (and sometimes still do), I found clients who value me and my work.
10 Reasons You Are Tempted to Abandon Your Brilliant Idea
#1 You feel uncomfortable and find this new idea very challenging.
#2 You are making decisions based on your feelings, not facts.
#3 You are comparing yourself to others way too much.
#4 You are consuming too much information without practicing what you have learned.
#5 Or you are consuming too much information and trying to implement it all at once.
#6 You are letting your fear of failure pollute your believe system and stop you from making a real effort towards reaching your goals.
#7 You are overthinking everything and unnecessarily complicating your tasks as a result.
#8 You are trying to do everything on your own.
#9 You focus on negative outcomes more than positive ones.
#10 You are afraid to make a decision.
3 Steps You Can Take Today to Move Forward
#1 Ask for help
The reason that I didn't completely give up on my brilliant idea is because I joined a community of amazing individuals who were also striving to become virtual assistants. We help, support and inspire each other, in addition to having the guidance of a leader who has been where we're at and knows how to get where we're going.
So I recommend joining a Facebook group or membership site. You could also gather a group of like-minded individuals and talk through your dreams, fears, goals and insecurities. If you're not into groups, maybe invest in a session with a life or business coach or just talk to someone who you can trust to provide great feedback and accountability.
#2 Make a List
Write down everything that you are afraid of or everything that you are worried about and then break down that list into two separate categories: things you can control and things you can't control. Ask yourself, "why am I so worried about things I can't control? and How long am I going to sacrifice my sanity and inner peace?"

Also ask yourself, "What will happen if I don't pursue this brilliant idea and do I want to deal with those consequences or live in that reality?"
#3 Do ONE thing that you've been avoiding or too afraid to do
Action is and will forever be the answer. We have to take a step in either direction if we want to move forward. Please note that I didn't say the "right" direction. We tend to worry so much because we question if we are making the right decision, but we can't have clarity without action.
